WoW Upgrades - The Item Level Upgrade (Atavi.Com) Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for the latter due to the need to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade items their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item however they'll always be cheaper than buying new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade item has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with a button, which will show a preview of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit and an issue.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level will cost less even in the event that they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of options. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated may require as many as 20 crests based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrader gear you can locate, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
