WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with higher variance due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be visited anytime to upgrade items your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool using the help of button, which displays a preview of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current item level. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. After an Item Level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade item recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and an issue.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with several new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This applies even if the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them wisely. For instance it's Best item upgrade to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount on the account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
