WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. The item upgrading used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will display a preview of the item at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item upgrading slot and current Item level upgrade level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with numerous new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less even when they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you should know that crests are only available for equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level. For example, once an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
