Keys

Car keys lost are a common occurrence and can be a real problem to handle However, getting a replacement key from a dealer is expensive. UK Auto Locksmiths will offer you a lower cost alternative and the most recent equipment and software that can help. To permit them to complete the job, you'll only require a VIN and evidence of ownership. They'll also need to know the type of key that you require. They can supply remotes, flip keys and even Fobs. They can also assist you to create new keys.

Remotes

Most Seat drivers keep a spare remote in the house or garage, but when they lose it getting replacement keys from a dealer is expensive and time consuming. This is because most dealers will programme the key using the car's computer which will need to be reset. However, many people buy second-hand keys off the internet that are not programmed to their car. This can be a much cheaper alternative to going to the dealer. But, these key will not start the car because they will not have a transponder chip inside them. You can see the chip (yellow) in this picture below, it is a Dual Inline Package or DIP 18 pin chip. There are also a diode, transistor and resonator, all these parts make up the key's circuit.

Immobilisers

As car immobilisers became popular in the late nineties, car theft figures began to drop, but thieves are smart and always searching for ways to bypass security systems. They were able to sneak around the earlier immobiliser systems using scanners to find the code on the transponder chip, and then copying it onto an unlocked key, but since then, technology has advanced and they've had to devise new methods.

Fortunately, the majority immobilisers we sell and install are Thatcham Cat 2 certified. This means they have been tested and certified by the Thatcham Research organisation. This not-for-profit organisation is the grading and approval system for aftermarket alarms and security devices, such as car immobilisers.

When the Thatcham approved immobiliser system is activated it will send a coded signal to the Engine Management System of the vehicle, preventing the engine from running until the correct key is available. This means that if the vehicle is "hot wired" after entry and the engine is cut out within 30 seconds, making it impossible to start.

As with computers, the immobiliser may develop problems and sometimes the internal battery or the key seat fob could need to be replaced. It is recommended to hire an expert do the work and ensure everything is installed correctly and functions.

Transponders

A transponder is a piece of equipment that transmits an identifying signal when interrogated. This helps keep a distinct line between aircraft and also signals an aircraft to air traffic controllers when it is operating a radar system. The identifying information sent back by the transponder is different based on the kind of system used.

Transponders are also used in satellites and space vehicles to connect with Earth-based systems, such as cell phone networks and other networks for communication. These devices receive incoming signals on a range of frequencies, and then transmit them on another frequency, similar to the way repeaters operate in terrestrial cell phone networks.

Advanced passive transponders can be found on aircrafts. They are used to monitor flight status and provide navigation information like the aircraft's position and speed, altitude, and the route. Transponders provide information that air traffic controllers can use to manage flight paths, and also ensure safety.

In addition to aircraft transponders Many personal keys contain a small transponder chip. These chips are non-active and do not require batteries. This allows the ECU to read the signal of the transponder whenever it is installed in the ignition lock.

The flight deck of most aircrafts has a switch that pilots can use to turn their transponders on or off. They can also choose an "ident" mode that allows the transponder's unique squawk codes and makes it stand out on the crowded air-traffic control screen.
