How to Replace an audi key fob replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and could indicate chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test as there are various connector pins, and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read around 1000 ohms. Examine for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or injectors are not firing anymore. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put a piece of tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine without sparks, the three with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I got 0ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car is able to start when the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, as i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is easy to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you have a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger the engine shutting down.

A damaged G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or an unfire when in gear. If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is likely that your sensor is deteriorating and requires audi a3 replacement key. They're cheap and easy to find, especially in the case of a Bosch sensor like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this part is a good option.

5. Tachometer

toyota-logo-2020.pngA malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the cause of numerous problems in your vehicle. It's a vital component of your audi keyfob's transmission, since it relays information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

Ford-New.pngThe G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via an uncolored wire. The ECU is then able to process this signal to control fuel, timig and boost and then transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. You can also check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should see the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these points. This is a common part that is found across the audi key replacement cost uk 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU. Good ones could be available in wrecking yards.
