The Best Robot Hoover
The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and it leaves your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line functions (such as dirt detectors) are both positives.
Make sure to check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris as well as hair. Clean them as needed. Some models can also self-empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in an additional bin at the bottom. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They have motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it sees the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a great option for those who want to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and provide better cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds and cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robotic hoovers vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum best vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. Also, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might expect from its price tag. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also grants access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
