How to Replace an audi replacement key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumped chain link in the upper timing chain. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It can be a bit difficult to test since there are various pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were drenched in gasoline and the 4th was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when I start the engine without sparks, the three with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID without success. The audi a1 car key can start if the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is connected however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.
I'm not certain what to do, but i believe that i've eliminated everything else. But i am afraid I might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please let me know! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the audi spare key cost in a salvage shop or a parts store. Test them out - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, etc. In order to do this it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which could cause engine shut down.
A damaged G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire while in the gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. They're inexpensive and easy to locate, especially in the case of a Bosch model like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this part is also a good choice.
5. Tachometer
A failing engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of problems in your vehicle.
