Path of Exile item upgrade Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a common and important way to improve the performance of numerous items in Path of Exile. They can be a fantastic source of extra damage or more AD or even more affixes.

Rare-grade equipment is usually superior to upgraded Common or Magic equipment due to their high demands.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They boost the performance of the item upgrading they're attached to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at bonfires. They can also be salvaged by using a specialist or higher salvage kit to recover upgrades from the items.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it is able to take on. The absorption of damage by an armor piece will increase when it's upgraded to its maximum upgrade level. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it should be heavier.

There are several kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game and they all have different effects. For instance, certain upgrades will grant the armor a certain amount of health points while others will make it stronger and lighter. The name of the upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade that an item upgrader kit will be given, as illustrated below.

Some upgrades are magic or a hybrid of technology and magic which is shown by an "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Some upgrades also require a fee to use, which are identified by an "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are updated daily or never expire depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest way to upgrade armor is with Iron Ore, which can be obtained by exploring the area and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive, but is readily available in the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to high level armor pieces. These upgrades can give a significant improvements in stats and are well worth the investment.

Upgrading a piece of armor to the highest upgrade level will greatly increase its defense values however, the user must be aware that putting on weight will drastically reduce its speed and agility. It is not recommended to upgrade armor above +9. The added defense generally isn't worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades give players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can increase the accuracy of a rifle or the damage caused by shotgun shells. Certain firearms have upgrades to improve their inherent qualities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and minimizes the risk of overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).

The majority of upgrades for weapons require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. They can be obtained by completing Side Quests, taking out a certain number of bosses or monsters, or through the Weapon Upgrade NPC located in Central Flarine.

Upgrading a Weapon, Equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade cost of a set number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars required to complete it. The cost of upgrading will be lower if you have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the ways to upgrade your weapon and equipment sets was a bit different. In the past you could go to an Upgrade Bench and pay a certain number of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to a higher quality. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would be reset.

You can still do this, however, the process is high on RNG and low on agency. You should consider buying equipment that has minimal upgrade levels, but high base scores and stat distributions. These will be able to give you the most prestigious perks and blessings.

To increase their level faster, many players prioritise upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their squadmates utilize to increase their power. Shepard, for example, should upgrade the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when used with biotic specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to increase the effectiveness of a skill or provide additional effects on weapons and armor. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, in which you combine a gemstone with a number specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the quality of the gemstone, the better the secondary effect. These reagents can be obtained from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses around the world, or through collecting Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.

The Jeweler can enhance the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. The stat boosts can vary depending on the level the jewel is at when it's slotted into jewelry, weapons, or equipment.

The Jeweler is able to create all tiers of gems, except for the rare and legendary ones that you must be at certain levels to gain. In contrast to other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped out with a identical jewel without damaging it. However you can only swap out one jewel in an equipment piece only once.

Using more jewels in a move will make it more smooth, and is often performed for aesthetic reasons. Apart from improving performance, the jewels also create an outer layer that is more durable than metal, which means that repeated friction from pivots won't cause damage as easily.

A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the appearance of your weapons and shields. These are a small perk and can be swapped out at any time, but are not guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold, and also a scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like traits and aegis, are not swappable, and are only recoverable by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that provide many small but useful benefits to your hero. They can be obtained in the starter areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and through completing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinkets that a player unlocks will be the cloak, which grants a small, but valuable boost in speed of movement and the ability to escape. After that, they can get amulets, rings, and necklaces in the same manner to the way a player obtains armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment comes with a slot for an upgrade that is either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be used in any kind of equipment while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded and is only compatible with specific types of trinkets.

These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows the hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It also helps compensate for the absence of strong team or talent tree slots which are usually filled by the hero's best stats.

As a general rule trinket upgrades should be a priority BiS (Best in Slot) items that you will not replace in the near future. Next, any items with desirable statistics that aren't as important as the iLevel for the item upgrader mod that is to be upgraded. This is especially true when an item upgrader kit has multiple stats you'd like to upgrade, as it's often better to upgrade just one important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.

Jungle players usually upgrade their yellow trinket to a red one at the beginning of the game. Top and mid players on the other hand they will select a pink or green ward, depending on the matchup. These choices will have a major impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.

In addition to the items listed above, players will find other trinkets that form of trophies and rewards throughout the game. They can be earned by completing certain milestones within the story, for instance finishing a chapter's main quest or destroying a boss. You can see them by selecting the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
